Schools Outreach Program

Debate Teaching Program

The Union Debating Society operates an excellent Schools Debate Teaching Program where we send our debaters to schools and colleges in the local area to teach students about debating and public speaking. In the past, we have organised training sessions for a variety of schools across Fife.

If you are a school or college local to the University of St Andrews who would be interested in having us provide debate or public speaking training to your students, or have any other questions about our Schools Outreach Program please get in touch. You can contact our Schools Outreach Officer by email at schoolsdebating@st-andrews.ac.uk.

First Chances

The UDS has partnered with First Chances Fife to deliver regular debate training at a number of local schools. The aim of the program is to inspire school children to get involved with debate and to build their confidence. Our schools officers and other society members take great pride in giving back to our local community by running these sessions.

St Andrews Schools Competition 2023

Every year, St Andrews welcomes debate teams from across Scotland to the St Andrews Schools Competition. This is a day long competition for school-children to practice their debating skills against others and experience St Andrews in-person.

This year our Schools Competition is taking place on the 30th September 2023. If your school is interested in taking part in our next competition, email our Schools Officer at schoolsdebating@st-andrews.ac.uk.
